Yes. It does depend on the audience. If a Catholic asks me about the relationship between the individual and the Church, I am going to appeal to the Catechism because we both accept the Catechism to be true. If a non-Catholic Christian asks me, I will appeal to the Bible because it is what we both accept. If an Atheist asks me, I’ll try to use logic without appealing to any religious sources since we do not share a common belief in the religious sources.
