Anonymous asked: Hi, I am getting my child baptized in several weeks. The Godparents we would like to choose for our son are both Catholic and both homosexual (gay and lesbian). They are both active Catholics that regularly attend Mass. They have both received the sacraments of baptism, reconciliation and confirmation. They freely and daily express and share their love of God and that of the Catholic church. Is it a problem that they are homosexuals?

To be honest, I don’t know.

I checked on the Catholic forums which seems to be the only place where this issue has been discussed on the internet, and they were somewhat unhelpful.  They assumed that a homosexual would either not be practicing, or would be associated with ‘gay culture.’  From what I gathered, it seems to appear that if the Godparents you would like to choose are practicing Catholics, and they live a chaste life, and though they identify as homosexual, they choose not to be affiliated with the ‘gay culture,’ there would be no problem with them being God parents.  I do highly suggest discussing this with at least one priest, but probably more.

If anyone has some insights that I have failed to provide, please ‘reply’ to this post with them!

As far as I understand, if they commit to living a chaste life, are practicing Catholics, and don’t associate with ‘gay culture,’ then there is no problem if they are homosexuals.

God bless!
