The Catholic Church Should Be Tried For Crimes Against Humanity

“ Were any one person guilty of these crimes, the global community would be asking for justice. Yet these crimes are of such a disturbing nature, and the church has shown little – if any – genuine remorse for them, that the global community can no longer be content to grant the Catholic Church immunity simply because it hides behind the vague term: religion. Enough families have been ripped apart and enough people have died - it is time, once and for all, for the Catholic Church to come clean.”

Alright.  We can prosecute the Catholic Church for crimes against humanity:

After the United States gets tried for crimes against humanity because of the creation and usage of the nuclear bomb AND for the internment of Japanese civilians.

After the Yugoslav countries get tried for war crimes against Italians for their senseless massacres of civilians during WWI.

After the Arab countries come clean about starting the crusades because of their pirating and pillaging up and down the Italian coastline.  I’ll agree that the Vatican should get tried for crimes against humanity as soon as the Arab countries accept total responsibility for starting the crusades and pay reparations to the affected countries.

After the Jews apologize for placing a curse on 1st century Christians at the council of Jamnia in the year 90 AD.  This separated the Christians from the Jews, meaning that they were not under the legal protection the Romans gave the Jews and therefore led to massacres on Christians.

Once you do all that, then we can start talking about putting the Church on trial.

When Judas says it would have been better to sell the oil and give the money to the poor, Christ says “the poor will be with you always”. The Church knows this and so yes, we could sell all the artwork and historical artifacts we have and give all the money to the poor, but once it runs out…there will still be the poor and now no money. The idea that anyone would listen to anyone in the entertainment industry talk about religious organizations having excess wealth is farcical. The vast majority of the Catholic Church’s “wealth” is dollar signs slapped on the invaluable — the Western world’s immense patrimony of architecture and real estate (read: churches), art and other artifacts, universities and schools, monasteries and convents, hospitals and charity organizations. In most countries of the world (not the US), most parish priests do not even get paid a regular salary by their diocese; they live off what is given to them. But that doesn’t make Sarah Silverman feel as good about herself, so we’ll let it go. Damn talk about getting your ass chewed out lol Reblogged for the glorious commentary.
